○ Maryland Wear and Carry Handgun Permit
Course Name: Maryland Wear and Carry Handgun Permit
Course Overview:
The Maryland Wear and Carry Handgun Permit Workshop is a 2-Days (16 hours) of instruction for an Original application, and 1-Day (8 hours) of instruction for a Renewal application.
Designed to provide the core competencies required for Maryland Wear and Carry Handgun Permit (WCHP), this workshop teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry a pistol for personal defense.
Training is valid until the permit expiration. However, you must receive subsequent training within 2 years of submitting your renewal application. The approved training is offered by a Maryland State Police Qualified Handgun Instructor and will include Instructions on:
- Maryland State firearm law
- Home firearm safety
- Handgun mechanisms and operation
- Applicant must be able to demonstrate Gun safety and proficiency with a minimum score of 70% accuracy.
- Designated security personnel (security guards, private detectives, special police, and armored car drivers/guards) must shoot a practical police course of at least 50 rounds, from no further than 25 yards and score at least 70% accuracy.
- All other applicants must shoot a course of at least 25 rounds, from no further than 15 yards and score at least 70% accuracy.
Course Length: 16 Hours of instruction (initial application); or 8 Hours of instruction (renewal application).
Cost: Initial Application (16 Hrs) – $450 ; Renewal (8 Hrs) – $250.
Class Size:
Proper firearms training usually requires some one-on-one time between an instructor and student. A large class size means too many students are competing for an instructor’s limited time and attention. In situations like this, students who are struggling may not get the personal instruction necessary for them to keep up with the class or fully grasp a principle or technique. I’ve had students who’ve previously attended training from other schools and came to me for re-training because they weren’t given proper personalized attention by their former instructors. Our WCHP Workshop is limited to a maximum of 4 students per instructor. A reasonable expectation of teaching in a small-size class is that students receive more individual attention; this teacher-student ratio of 1:4 allows for more personalized hands-on guidance and increases attention to individual students.
Please Note:
Prior to submitting the application, Wear and Carry Permit Training must be successfully completed, a student must pass the Firearms Safety & Proficiency with a minimum score of 70%.
